Responding to the pride march bans in Poland, Latvia, and other Eastern European countries, as well as violent attacks against pride marchers who have attempted to stage their events, the European Parliament passed a resolution in January calling on member countries - which include Poland, Latvia, and the Czech Republic - to oppose "homophobic hate speech or incitement to hatred and violence" and to treat gays with "respect, dignity and protection."

The former head of the "Social Vice" Committee of Kuwait's National Assembly (Parliament) told the Kuwaiti newspaper Alqabas that the Committee is in the process of organizing a national conference in order to define the definition of social vice and the ways to crackdown on them. Mr Valid Tabatabaii, the Kuwati MP, told the paper that it is the responsibility of the parliament to undertake this campaign, especially since the country's constitution states that the state has the responsibility to protect youth. <br><br> Facing increasing criticism about the way they handle social issues, he labeled those criticisms as unjustified and accused his opponents of ignorance; "Mankind is against anything he doesn't understand," adding that the parliamentary committee was formed based on a request from 43 MPs and has so far played a significant role in the Kuwaiti society.

Sections 600 and 601 prohibit homosexual acts between men and between women, with a penalty of 10 days to 3 years' "simple imprisonment".
